What is privacy DNS?

Privacy DNS is a type of Domain Name System (DNS) service that aims to protect the privacy of users’ internet browsing activity.

When a user types a website URL into their browser, the browser sends a request to a DNS server to resolve the domain name (e.g., www.example.com) into an IP address that the browser can use to connect to the website. Privacy DNS services work by providing an alternative DNS server that encrypts these requests and/or does not log any information about the requests, so that the user’s browsing activity is kept private.

One of the main benefits of using a privacy DNS service is that it can help to protect against DNS-based censorship and surveillance. By encrypting DNS requests, it becomes more difficult for third parties to track or block access to specific websites. Some privacy DNS services also include built-in security features such as malware and phishing protection to improve the overall security of a user’s internet connection.

There are a number of privacy DNS services available, some of them are: Cloudflare, OpenDNS, Quad9, Google Public DNS, and OpenNIC. It’s worth mentioning that not all privacy DNS services are created equal, and it’s important to research and compare different options to find the one that best meets your needs.
